“The Guardians of the Front Range”

Rainbow Bridge Tribute – Written for Front Range German Shepherd Rescue

We remember.

Every bark, every breath, every heartbeat that found

its way from fear to freedom — because of you.

We came from backyards and backroads,

from cages too small and nights too long.

Some of us were brave, some were broken,

all of us were waiting for a whisper of hope.

And then we heard it — your voice.

The one that said, “Come here, Shepherd. You’re safe now.”

You saw what others overlooked.

Not just our scars or our size or our sorrow —

but the soul that still waited behind tired eyes.

You didn’t flinch when we growled in confusion.

You didn’t turn away when the weight of our past came crashing down.

You steadied us, loved us, and reminded us who we were meant to be.

We are the guardians of your legacy —

the Shepherds who now run the meadows beyond the Bridge.

Our coats gleam again, our hips no longer ache,

our hearts beat in time with the wind rolling off the Rockies.

From the mountain trails to the golden fields,

we watch over the ones still waiting.

We nudge the timid, comfort the lost,

and send quiet strength to those you’re still saving.

Every adoption was a promise kept.

Every goodbye was a love story complete.

And every life — ours, yours, theirs — became part of something bigger:

a circle of compassion that never ends.

So when dusk paints the Front Range in shades of violet and gold,

and you pause, just for a moment, to think of one of us—

know this:

We remember you, too.

The hands that healed.

The hearts that believed.

The home that made heroes of us all.

Thank you, Front Range German Shepherd Rescue, for teaching the world that loyalty can be rescued, and love never truly leaves.
