Great Dane
I stooped to kiss you when you cried
and curled to fit your bed,
A gentle giant, grace in bulk,
with noble, bowing head.
My heart was huge,
my steps were slow, my presence calm and kind —
A thunderstorm with velvet paws,
the hug you’d always find.
Now clouds make room to let me pass,
the stars part at my feet,
A Dane in flight, still leaning in,
still making angels weep.
You’ll find me in the silent strength
that helps you carry on,
The warmth that wraps your shoulders
tight when morning breaks the dawn.
